Adam Trest is the go-to-guy for all things art.  He will be the featured speaker next month, on March 17th, for the lunchtime Art Talk at Lauren Rogers Museum of Art in downtown Laurel, MS.  We are so proud of Adam and excited to hear him share his knowledge of art.  Adam is a very busy guy and puts in his "two-cents" in several places.  But here at Oak Street Place, Adam manages our 2nd floor gallery, teaches art classes most days of the week, and also runs 106 Oak Street Place, an artisans retail shop.  It features many great local artists, one of which is Hello Dearie.  Can't wait to come cheer for you at the Laurel Rogers Museum of Art.

]]>http://www.oakstreetplace.com/encouraging-entrepreneursAre we a destination yet?http://www.oakstreetplace.com/are-we-a-destination-yetThu, 03 Feb 2011 06:00:00 GMTAmy GonzalezLast week, a young man called the office very excited about finding our apartments online.  He was moving late Spring, but wanted to go ahead and reserve an apartment.  When I asked him if he was familiar with our location, he said that he hadn't yet toured downtown Laurel, Maryland but was looking forward to doing that.  I then had to tell him that our apartments would prove to be a very long commute for him, Mississippi to Maryland!  He was shocked to find out we were in MS!  He was silent for a good 10-15 seconds, and then said something like "Makes me want to visit Mississippi."  What a great compliment!  We have a product that attracts young professionals from all over the country, and even encourages potential tourism.  What else can we do downtown to make more of that happen?

That is inspiring.  All of us here in downtown Laurel can surely benefit from expanding our customer base, and Erin says that blogging is one wasy to do that.  So I am on board. 

]]>http://www.oakstreetplace.com/encouraged-to-bloySimple Saturday Music Selectionhttp://www.oakstreetplace.com/simple-saturday-music-selectionMon, 15 Feb 2010 17:13:13 GMTAmy GonzalezWhat a great time we had tonight with the Irish/Celtic band, Emerald Accent.  For two hours, we enjoyed a great time of music and a little dance.  Humberto Gonzalez of Oak Street Place Studio, even got to join in the festivities.  He pulled up a chair and played along on his violin.  There were moments of impromptu dance as well from the young and the not-so-young.  And combined with great food and coffees from Lee's Coffee & Tea, Simple Saturday was a success.
